From Andrea Menhinick:
A confession: I don’t tithe. Neither is my regular donation a widow’s mite (the last she had; see Mark 12:41-44). Nevertheless, my donations have felt uncomfortably close to a widow’s mite. So why didn’t I do the sensible thing and stop the regular giving? My conscience wouldn’t let me.
My conscience reminded me of the vast impact that Good News Ministries has had on my life, both as an “ever-present help in times of trouble” and as adult faith-food to fuel my spiritual journey towards my Papa-God. In addition, many times I have forwarded the daily Good News Reflections to friends and family in need of encouragement, with very positive, grateful feedback from the recipients.
Big miracles
My Papa-God has returned my teeny donations to GNM with “a full measure, pressed down and running over” (see Luke 6:38) — while I was struggling to pay bills after a health-breakdown that resulted in reduced work hours and decreased income.
When I could least afford for plumbing to go wrong, my plumber did two jobs for no remuneration. He told me later he tries to do one job pro-bono each month. By God’s grace, the plumber picked me as the fortunate recipient — twice!
I broke an essential tooth and was in tears, knowing I couldn’t afford dental bills. My dentist implanted a titanium post, charging only the equivalent of a small filling!
A Christian friend has lovingly prepared and delivered weekly boxes of fresh produce from her garden, saving me at least $50 on my grocery bill each time.
I longed to train as a dyslexia teacher here in New Zealand, but I couldn’t afford the tertiary institute fees. A Christian friend who is highly experienced in this teaching style offered to train me in 2021 and pay me while I train, providing me with students to teach, regular mentoring, teaching resources, advice on running a small business, and a sub-contractor remuneration which has saved me from financial strife.
I am overcome with gratitude to my Heavenly Father, my Saviour Jesus and my beautiful friend and counselor, Holy Spirit. God cannot be outdone in generosity.
As I’ve journeyed back to full health, I have held onto a beautiful saying:
God is too wise to be mistaken,
God is too good to be unkind,
So, when you can’t see His Plan
And you can’t trace His Hand,
Trust His HEART.
After writing this testimony, my conscience is again troubled by a disturbing question. Why have I donated so little when God has given me so much?
To get your own miracle of sharing, offer a donation today. You’ll be making an impact, changing the world by bringing the light of Christ into the darkness that seems to be taking over the lives of so many people. You’ll be renewing the Church, person by person, by joining us in activating the faith of more and more Catholics.
If you want Good News Ministries to continue, we absolutely need your support. Thank you!
And now, Lord, enable your servants to speak your word with all boldness, as you stretch forth your hand to heal and to give us signs and wonders through the name of Your holy servant Jesus. (Acts 4:29-30)
