Today, you will probably do your best to be the best person you can be. Isn’t that how we all think? Isn’t that our intention every day?
There’s a difference between doing our best and doing everything possible to be our best selves.
We were made in the image and likeness of God. When we were baptized, we were delivered from the worst we could be, set free from the control of Original Sin. So, to be our best means being who we really are.
And that means consciously remembering throughout the day what God is like.
And that means uniting ourselves to God each moment of the day.
And that means we are empowered by God to overcome the sin of making lazy, mediocre attempts to be our best selves.
And that means that, with God’s help, you will succeed in being the best you can possibly be this day. Not perfect, but the real you, the you who makes God smile because today you are holier than you were yesterday.
