| "My soul is overwhelmed with
sorrow to the point of death." (Matt. 26:38) The name Gethsemane means "Olive Press" and perhaps was so named
because one of these devices was located there. Oils were forced out by applying much
pressure. It was symbolically an appropriate place for Jesus to pray, because of the
pressure He experienced as He suffered under the weight of His decision to die for my sins
and your sins and all the sins of all the world of all times.
And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and
his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. (Luke 22:44) |
