The rocks upon which Jesus stood as He ate
breakfast with His disciples and spoke with them, are the rocks upon which this Church of
the Primacy of St. Peter is built. They are seen both on the outside, and on the inside
(below). When they had finished eating, Jesus
said to Simon Peter, "Simon son of John, do you truly love me more than these?"
"Yes, Lord," he said, "you know that
I love you."
Jesus said, "Feed my lambs." |
Again Jesus said, "Simon son of
John, do you truly love me?"
 |
He answered, "Yes, Lord, you know
that I love you." Jesus said,
"Take care of my sheep."
The third time he said to him, "Simon son of
John, do you love me?"
Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third
time, "Do you love me?" He said, "Lord, you know all things; you know that
I love you."
Jesus said, "Feed my sheep. (John 21:15-17) |
And thus, Peter became The Rock upon which the Church
and its Liturgy of the Eucharist was built.
Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of
Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you
that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will
not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on
earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in
heaven." (Matt. 16:17-19)
