I plead with you, as a prisoner for the Lord, to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble, gentle, and patient. Bear with one another lovingly. Make every effort to preserve unity, which originates in the Holy Spirit, who is the binding force of peace. There is but one body and one Spirit, just as there is but one hope given to all by your calling (Ephesians 4:1-4).

CASTEL GANDOLFO, Italy, SEPT. 13, 2001: "In the century now opening before us, humanity has the opportunity to make great strides against some of its traditional enemies: poverty, disease, violence. It has joined Muslims and Jews (we saw a demonstration of that in the National Cathedral on the Day of Prayer and Remembrance, Friday, September 14th). It has crossed the denominational boundaries of Christians. It has inspired Democrats and Republicans to work together. It has unified the world.
